Audi’s story began back in 1899 when August Horch founded the Horch & Cie. Company, where he worked on developing his first vehicle. Due to disagreements within the board, Horch left the company to form another, which he named Audiwerke GmbH – or simply Audi for short. Since that time, Audi has been credited with countless innovations that have kept the competition on its toes.
The company’s flashy 100LS sedan and compact, along with its spirited Fox coupe and sedan, began to garner attention amongst U.S. consumers in the 1970s. In the early 80s, Audi unveiled its Quattro model, an all-wheel-drive sports coupe. This model’s advanced drive system, along with an elegant, stylish and high-quality interior, became the hallmarks of all future Audi models.
