The first Mercedes was crafted in 1901. A few years later, the two companies founded by Daimler and Benz merged in 1926 to form Daimler-Benz AG, and the Mercedes-Benz brand was officially born. Based in Stuttgart, Germany, the Mercedes brand is known for producing some of the world’s most recognizable vehicles, including luxury cars, SUVs, coaches, and buses.
Almost from its inception, the brand became synonymous with automobile design excellence. In the late 1880s, the Benz Patent-Motorwagen was developed, which is widely believed to be the first gasoline-powered vehicle created. Continuing this trend of always staying a step ahead of the curve, the company also developed the world’s first production vehicle to feature four-wheel independent suspension.
