The Mini marque may be relatively new to the U.S. market, but this feisty little vehicle has a long and storied history, beginning in post-WWII England in the late 1950s. Then, a top engineer at the Morris Company, Alec Issigonis, was issued a challenge to design and build a vehicle that was small, fuel-efficient, affordable and capable of carrying four adults.

Some of their most notable vehicles developed by Mini include the Morris Mini-Minor, the Austin Seven, the Countryman, the 1275 GT, the Moke and the Clubman. If a particular vehicle happens to be a performance model, the name Cooper is added into the mix. This is done as part of a partnership between the company and racing legend John Cooper.

Over the years, the Mini has motored its way down countless streets worldwide, across the many-a racetrack finish line, and finally into the ready hands of the eager American consumer. In 2003, the Mini even won the “North American Car of the Year Award.” Originally owned by the British Motor Corporation, the Mini brand is now a part of the BMW Group.
