Tires by Type
When it comes to buying tires, there are many options. In addition to shopping tires by vehicle or tires by brand, it can also be helpful to shop for tires by type. This is important because not every type of tire will be right for every vehicle or driving need. For instance, a tire designed for speed and precision on the race track would not make sense for a vehicle that will be used to go on off-roading adventures. Conversely, tires that were specifically developed for optimal performance in the summer would not be ideal when driving in harsh winter conditions.
To determine which type of tire is the right fit for your needs, we recommend answering the following three questions:
- What type of driving will you most often be doing?
- What type of weather will you be driving in?
- What type of vehicle will you be driving and how will you (or how do you want to) drive it?
If you will primarily be using your vehicle for everyday commuting, you probably won’t need heavy-duty tires. If you live somewhere that experiences fluctuations in temperature and extreme weather, all-season tires might make the most sense. If you envision your ideal driving experience to be a quiet, smooth and comfortable ride, touring tires would probably be your best bet.
